Oh Snap! Teen Photo Contest Winners Announced
Photographs taken by teens on display at Stamford Museum & Nature Center
The winning photographs taken by teens in Stamford Museum & Nature Center's first Oh Snap! Teen Photo Contest are on display in the museum's Bendel Mansion Museum Galleries during the month of July.
The winners are: Animals category: First, David Tunick, 17, a Greenwich High School student, for "Expressive Eye"; Second, David Tunick for "Serene Lambs"; Third, Tucker Blandford, 16, a Westhill High School student, for "Untitled". Nature category: First, Robert Moss, 12, a Greenwich Catholic School student, for "Untitled"; Second, Emil Nusbaum, 15, an Abraham Heschel High School student, for "Solitude"; Third, Emil Nusbaum for "Abandonment."
The contest was organized by Senior Farm Curator Ryan Horton and juried by Bud Freund, a professional photographer with nearly 30 years experience photographing people, products, and architecture both nationally and internationally. His stock images are currently sold by Index and Corbis.
When asked about his selections Freund noted, "...great photographs show a mastery of foreground, middleground, background, shape, texture, and tone. Photography is subjective. It is about light, capturing a moment, organizing it and conveying a feeling or message to the viewer. The computer has added new levels of expertise and capabilities to the time-honored disciplines of composition, exposure, and retouching."
A 2008 calendar illustrated with participants' photographs is being produced. They will be available at the Museum's shop in November.
