This new series of family programs, led by local naturalists from Animal Embassy and the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, explores the amazing natural wonders often found right here at the Museum and even in your own backyard! Look for a new adventure each month!

Amphibian Amble

Join us as we head into the forest to check on one of our most unique habitats, our vernal ponds to see how our frogs, toads, and salamanders have progress in their metamorphoses. Known as the "nurseries of the forest," these seasonal ponds come to life in the spring with spotted salamanders, wood frogs and spring peepers. Meet our staff at the Overbrook Nature Center for a short introduction, and then it's into the woods we go! Please bring a flashlight.

Join Naturalist Chris Evers of Animal Embassy for this fascinating look at these often-misunderstood creatures. Enshrouded by myth and mystery snakes have been revered and reviled, through out human history. Join us for a revealing look at these remarkable animals and turn your fear into fascination. See live snakes from around the world, up close and personal at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. Meet Snow Flake the albino Burmese python, a green anaconda and more.

Hit the trails with Family Take a Hike Week

The whole family can enjoy three days of fun, hands-on activities during Family Take a Hike Week sponsored by Aquarion Water Company and IBM, April 15, April 16, and April 17, with guided nature hikes, tree plantings, and a scavenger hunt. New this year, "Wildman" Steve Brill of Mamaroneck, NY, will lead a hike in search of wild edibles. The Stamford Museum & Nature Center's 118-acre site has a vast network of trails, including the Wheels in the Woods universally-accessible trail, and 80 acres of forest.

Family Take a Hike Week is open to all ages and is free with gate admission.
Members: Free | Non-Members: Adults $8, Seniors & Students $6, Children $4, Children 3 & under, Free.

Visitors are invited to stay and enjoy the rest of the SM&NC site including Heckscher Farm, a working traditional New England farm with more than 50 animals including cows, goats, llamas, sheep, pigs, as well as Animal Embassy, home to live exotic animals. Stop in the Bendel Mansion Museum Galleries to see the exhibition Architecture of the Imagination: The Lure of the LEGO® Brick.
