“Chagall for Children” Exhibition Opens November 14 in Conjunction with Holiday Market and Book Signing at Stamford Museum & Nature Center
The public is invited to the opening reception of “Chagall for Children” on Thursday, November 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s annual Holiday Market, and a book signing with local author, Lynn Villency Cohen.
Stamford, Conn. – Stamford Museum & Nature Center is pleased to present “Chagall for Children,” an interactive, hands-on exhibition that presents a unique opportunity to introduce children to art through the work of master artist, Marc Chagall, while allowing them to explore their own creativity. The exhibit has traveled the nation since 1996, organized by the Kohl Children’s Museum of Illinois.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, November 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. in conjunction with the SM&NC’s annual Holiday Artisan Market, and a book signing with local author, Lynn Villency Cohen. The exhibition will be on view in the Stamford Museum’s Bendel Galleries from Friday, November 15, 2019 through Saturday, January 5, 2020. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
“There is a powerful synergy in this pairing of events that reflects our commitment to programming across all ages,” said Melissa H. The hands-on exhibition is comprised of 14 stations, each featuring a reproduction of a Chagall masterpiece accompanied by multi-sensory elements and an informative audio recording. Guests can create mosaics, weave tapestries, use touch screens to digitally alter Chagall’s masterpieces, conduct symphonies, and even insert themselves into one of his paintings through the magic of video.
“Chagall was a whimsical artist who instantly appeals to children’s senses of wonder and fantasy,” said Jillian Casey, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions for Stamford Museum & Nature Center. “The components of this exhibit help to develop a greater understanding of all forms of artistic expression, as well as specific art principles like color, composition, light, and texture.”
The November 14th opening will be held in conjunction with the SM&NC’s annual Holiday Market, which will showcase the hand-made work of more than 20 local artisans including textiles, jewelry, apparel, ceramics, photography, pet gifts, woodwork, candles, skincare, soaps, gemstones, stationery, etchings and more.
The evening will also feature an on-site book singing of “To the Editor: a Curated Collection of Letters and Opinion Pieces” by Stamford author, Lynn Villency Cohen. Lynn has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the SM&NC since 2002, and was recognized by Moffly Media’s 2018 “Light a Fire” event as “Most Dedicated Supporter of the Arts” in Fairfield County.
