2023 Summer Camp Sessions
For children who are age eligible for PreK 4 (age 4 by 12/31/23) or Kindergarten in Fall 2023
Session 1: Water Wonders
July 3 - 7 (no class 7/4- 4 days)
Explore the wild wonders of water. Visit our vernal pools and stream to see who calls them home. Meet some animals that live in the water and create art inspired by our turtles and ducks. We’ll create masterpieces with watercolors and we’ll break out the water tables to explore some water science as well!
Session 2: Moo Crew!-FULL
July 10 - 14
Our most popular week returns! Join us for hands-on exploration and adventure on the farm. Meet the Heckscher Farm animals from chickens to cows, and everything in between. Discover the moos, baas, quacks, and oinks on the farm through stories and art. We’ll take a special look at the importance of cows learning about the many things we make from milk. Campers will also make some butter to taste. We want you to join the ‘Moo Crew”!
Session 3: Builders & Engineers-FULL
July 17 - 21
Kids are natural builders and creators! We’ll give campers a great week of building, tinkering, and designing both in the classroom and out on the trails. We’ll create some outdoor sculpture and recycled art, give kids free rein with loose parts on our outdoor STEAM trail, and discover how animals are builders too! Join us for a great week of exploration and figuring out how things work!
Session 4: Winter in Summer-FULL
July 24 - 28
Join us for this all-new week! We’ll learn about which animals hibernate, migrate, or stay active in the winter. We’ll make our own snow and get to play in fluffy, soft fake snow. We’ll go ‘ice’ skating in our socks, paint with ice, and explore how we turn a sheep’s winter coat into yarn. See how salt helps to melt ice and go on a scavenger hunt for trees that stay green all winter.
Session 5: Birds & Bees & Pollinators, please!-FULL
July 31 - August 4
We’ll discover how some of the most important animals in our ecosystems are the smallest! Explore the life cycles of bees and butterflies and how they help plants to grow. We’ll visit our organic vegetable and pollinator gardens, peek inside our beehives, and plant our own pollinator-friendly seeds to take home. We’ll also investigate our feathered friends, both on the farm and in the wild.
Session 6: Dinosaur Discovery-FULL
August 7 - 11
Dig into the world of dinosaurs and their modern-day relatives. Discover what we think we know about dinosaurs that walked here in Connecticut and in the region through observing real fossils. Meet some live lizards to learn what they have in common with their prehistoric relatives and discover that our feathered friends share some history with the T-Rex and other dinosaurs.
2023 Spring Session
