We’ll also meet many of the animals that call Heckscher Farm home and discover the many things that come from the farm.

Limited to 24 campers. There will be a lunch bunch option for this week.

Session 1: Animal Helpers

July 1 - 3 (3 days)
(no class 7/4 or 7/5)

A great camp option for our youngest animal fans! Learn how we can help the animals at the SM&NC as well as in the wild! We’ll make a snack for our pigs, create brush piles for wildlife in the woods, and plant native seeds to take home. We’ll also get to meet many of our exotic and wild animal rescues to learn the stories of how they arrived at the SM&NC.

Session 2: Moo Crew Too!-FULL

July 8 - 12

Our most popular week returns! Join us for hands-on exploration and adventure on the farm.  Meet the Heckscher Farm animals from chickens to cows, and everything in between.  Discover the moos, baas, quacks, and oinks on the farm through stories and art.  We’ll take a special look at the importance of cows learning about the many things we make from milk. Campers will also make some butter to taste.  We want you to join the Moo Crew!

Session 3: Builders & Engineers-FULL

July 15 - 19

Kids are natural builders and creators! We’ll give campers a great week of building, tinkering, and designing both in the classroom and out on the trails.  We’ll create some outdoor sculpture and recycled art, give kids free rein with loose parts on our outdoor STEAM trail, and discover how animals are builders too! Join us for a great week of exploration and figuring out how things work!

Session 4: Nature Trails & Farm Tales-FULL

July 22 - 26

This week will bring a week of fun and exploration on our great nature trails and popular Heckscher Farm. We’ll peek in the ponds, search the treetops for birds and bugs, and even visit the Rotten Log Hotel as we trek on some of our favorite trails. We’ll also share some of our favorite tales (and tails!) from the farm as we see what our furry and feathery critters are up to!

Session 5: Colors in Nature-FULL

July 29 - August 2

Explore how colors of plants and animals help them to survive in their habitats! From the hues of a rainbow to the patterns that help animals to camouflage, colors can be found everywhere in nature.  Take a color scavenger hunt, spy different colors on animals, and create some amazing, colorful art using a variety of media.

Session 6: Dinosaur Discovery-FULL

August 5 - 9

We’re offering this popular theme again this year as a preview to our Fall 2024 dino-themed exhibit! Dig into the world of dinosaurs and their modern-day relatives. Discover what we think we know about dinosaurs that walked here in Connecticut and in the region through observing real fossils. Meet some live lizards to learn what they have in common with their prehistoric relatives and discover that our feathered friends share some history with the T-Rex and other dinosaurs.
