Dinosaur Discovery: Go back in time to the world of dinosaurs and meet about their modern-day relatives. Discover the different types of dinosaurs, when they lived, and what they ate. Learn about the three types of rocks, which is best for the preservation of fossils, what types of animals parts fossils can be, and how those fossils form. Using real artifacts and replicas, explore how paleontologists figure out what dinosaurs were like. Grades K-3.
Everything-ology: Can’t decide what you want to study in afters? This one has it all! Each week we’ll explore a different “-ology,” from ornithology (birds), entomology (insects), ophiology (snakes) to cryptology (codes) and dendrology (trees). Through live animals, artifacts, games, and hands-on exploration, you’ll be an expert on so many things by the end of this class! Grades 1-4.
Habitat, Habitat! Discover animals that live around the world and the many places, from deserts to rainforests, that they live in! We’ll explore habitats both faraway and in our own backyards through interactions with live animals and plants, real artifacts, storybooks, and crafts! Investigate habitats large, like our forests, or small, like a rotten log “hotel,” as we find out that everything “has to have a habitat to carry on!” Grades PreK-2. .
Books & Beasts: Join us on a journey through our favorite children’s books and meet some animals right off the pages! Each week we’ll share a favorite piece of children’s literature, meet some animals that star in the books and create a themed craft to take home! From The Diary of a Spider to Giggle, Giggle Quack, we’ll meet all sorts of feathery, scaly, slimy, and furry creatures! Grades PreK-2.
Zany Zoology! Explore the animal kingdom from boneless beasts to furry friends and everything in between! We’ll discover how scientists group animals, tools that animals have to do their jobs, how to tell who eats what and more! We’ll also learn how different animals grow up, what animals have covering their bodies and more! Grades K-8.
Farmology: Have you ever touched a chicken, grown a vegetable, or heard what a goat sounds like? We’ll learn all about life on a farm and get to meet some residents of our farm too! Discover what products come from our local farms and why farms are so important. This program will feature live animals, hands-on projects, planting, farm-related arts and crafts, and more. This program must be held in a non-carpeted location. All grades.
Nature Superheroes & Underdogs: Did you know that the fastest animal in the world lives in our area? Or that some of the animals that people like the least are the most important? We’ll learn about the ‘super’ plants and animals that live on earth and create some great superhero crafts too! We’ll also explore the lives of snakes, spiders, insects, and other creatures that often don’t get the respect they deserve! This program will feature live animals, artifacts, plants, and arts and crafts. All grades.
